What to wear to church
Wear what is comfortable and respectful. Many members of the Marblehead Ward dress in what they call their Sunday best, but there is no dress code for visitors, and no one will ask you to change. You are welcome as you are.
What most people wear
On Sunday morning you will see many men and older boys in collared shirts, often with ties, and many women and girls in dresses or skirts. Others wear slacks, blouses or sweaters. Children usually wear neat, clean clothes. The aim is to show respect for a day set apart for worship.
You will not see anyone checking what you wear. Our congregation includes people who have attended all their lives and people who are new, and the atmosphere is friendly rather than formal.
Why Latter-day Saints dress this way
Latter-day Saints value modest, tidy dress and see Sunday clothing as a small way of honoring the sacrament meeting and the purpose of the day. It is a personal habit, not a test. Members are taught to welcome everyone no matter what they are wearing.
San Clemente is a beach town, and everyone here understands that mornings can be cool and that families arrive in a hurry. If you come in a clean shirt and comfortable shoes, you will fit in fine. A light jacket can be useful, since the chapel can feel cool.
Practical tips

If you feel out of place
Almost everyone feels a little unsure at a first visit to any new congregation. Members remember that feeling and will be glad to see you. If someone says hello, you can say hello back, and if you would rather keep to yourself that morning, that is fine too. Clothes are the last thing people notice about a new face.

Do visitors have to dress up?
No. Visitors can wear whatever they have. Clean and comfortable is enough.
Do men have to wear ties?
No. Many do, but it is a custom, not a requirement.
Can I wear shorts or sandals?
You may. Most members dress more formally, but guests are not turned away for casual clothes.
