Youth activities in San Clemente

Teenagers ages 12 to 18 are welcome at the Marblehead Ward. They meet in age-based classes on Sundays and join activities that focus on friendship, service and learning about Jesus Christ. Visiting teens do not need to be members, and parents are welcome to ask questions first.

What the youth program includes

Young men and young women meet in their own classes on Sundays, led by volunteer teachers and youth leaders. Beyond Sundays, wards plan activities such as service projects, sports, devotionals, outings and camps. The youth help plan many of these themselves, which gives them practice leading.

Teens can also take a seminary class, a scripture study course the Church offers for high school students. Ask us how seminary works in San Clemente, since schedules differ by school and stake.

Keeping young people safe

Parents should know how youth are protected. The Church asks leaders to take youth protection training, and activities are planned with more than one adult present. Adults do not message a single teen privately. Messages to youth include a second adult or the youth's parents.

Parents are always welcome at activities and are encouraged to ask about any plan. If you ever have a concern, bring it to a ward leader through the contact page.

Finding what is coming up

Activity dates are posted on the ward calendar, so check there instead of relying on a flyer. If your teen would like to try a Sunday class or an activity, send a note through the contact page and a leader will welcome you both.

For a look at the standards the Church teaches young people, see For the Strength of Youth. Families nearby in Talega, Forster Ranch and Dana Point are welcome too.

For parents deciding whether to try it

Teens often feel nervous about visiting a new group. Parents can help by coming along the first time and meeting the leaders. Youth are encouraged to bring friends, and many teens say the friendships they make are the best part. A first visit commits you to nothing, and you can come back or step away whenever you like.
